Thursday, 6:30 PM, a Local Jazz Club Lays Down Some Serious Music and E. Jane Connell Will Talk and Testify about The Promises of Freedom, Muskegon Museum of Art

Lecture & Jazz take center stage at MMA on October 17

The Muskegon Museum of Art continues its fall program series with a combo jazz and lecture presentation on Thursday, October 17.

A special jazz performance by local student musicians will open the program at 6:30 PM. This might be a group from Grand Valley State University, which has played well before at MMA.  MMA Senior Curator E. Jane Connell will then discuss Growing a Collection: African American Art at the MMA in her lecture at 7:00 pm.

Many artists featured in the MMA's Promises of Freedom exhibition—Elizabeth Catlett, Richmond Barthé, Jacob Lawrence, and Henry Ossawa Tanner among them—complement those represented in the MMA's collections. Learn about the history and development of the Museum's growing African American collection.

This program is free and open to the public.
